Digital-Centric RF CMOS Technologies
نویسنده
چکیده
Analog-centric RFCMOS technology has played an important role in motivating the change of technology from conventional discrete device technology or bipolar IC technology to CMOS technology. However it introduces many problems such as poor performance, susceptibility to PVT fluctuation, and cost increase with technology scaling. The most important advantage of CMOS technology compared with legacy RF technology is that CMOS can use more high performance digital circuits for very low cost. In fact, analog-centric RF-CMOS technology has failed the FM/AM tuner business and the digital-centric CMOS technology is becoming attractive for many users. It has many advantages; such as high performance, no external calibration points, high yield, and low cost. From the above facts, digital-centric CMOS technology which utilizes the advantages of digital technology must be the right path for future RF technology. Further investment in this technology is necessary for the advancement of RF technology. key words: CMOS, RF, analog, digital, tuner, PLL, sampling, mixer, wireless

Integration of Mixed-Signal Elements into a High-Performance Digital CMOS Process
The rapid increase in Internet communications’ products such as high-speed switches, SerDes (serial-deserializer) elements and XAUI (X=10G, attachment unit interface) ports has energized the need for process technologies that support both digital and analog (mixed-signal) elements at radio frequencies (RF). In order for these products to be competitive, process technologies that support analog/...
متن کاملProspect of the future of switched-current circuits with regard to future CMOS technologies
Low supply voltages in modern CMOS technologies are expected to reduce the maximum resolution of analog to digital converters in voltage mode operation. This paper outlines the functionality and possibilities of switched current (SI) circuit techniques in medium accuracy DS modulators. Starting with the presentation of different kinds of switched current cells, this paper gives an overview abou...
متن کاملCMOS Technology Characterization for Analog and RF Design
The design of analog and radio-frequency (RF) circuits in CMOS technology becomes increasingly more difficult as device modeling faces new challenges in deep submicrometer processes and emerging circuit applications. The sophisticated set of characteristics used to represent today’s “digital” technologies often proves inadequate for analog and RF design, mandating many additional measurements a...
متن کاملA Single-Chip Quad-Band GSM/GPRS Transceiver in 0.18μm Standard CMOS
CMOS RF has evolved from a novelty to a necessity with the mergence of all analog and digital functionality into a single chip for standards such as Bluetooth and WLAN/802.11. The stringent performance requirements associated with cellular standards such as GSM, however, has either limited the level of RF transceiver integration, or compelled the use of alternative technologies such as BiCMOS o...
متن کاملHigh-Q Inductors on Digital VLSI CMOS
The IC market for wireless applications is characterized by a strong competition demanding low-cost products. Single-chip solutions with combined analog radio frequency (RF) and digital baseband functions are preferred since they allow the decrease of assembling costs. More and more functions are shifted into the digital part of transceivers. Due to the dominant position of complementaly metal ...
